Rapper Ja Rule Sentenced to Two Years in Jail
While Weezy reached a plea deal, served 8 months in Rikers Island and has now been a free man since November 4, Rule (born Jeffrey Atkins) initially took his chances with the justice system. Yesterday morning, Rule pled guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon.
"Because of your guilty plea here today, you'll have a record of having committed a violent felony," Manhattan State Supreme Court Justice Richard Carruthers told Rule. "This is a very serious matter." Now, MTV reports that Ja fessed up as part of a plea deal that will send him to jail for two years. New York's gun laws typically require a mandatory sentence of at least three-and-a-half years behind bars.
